North House as a Training Practice
North House is a training practice where doctors, already qualified, learn about general practice before becoming GPs themselves. With your approval you may be offered an appointment with one of these doctors.
We provide placements to GP trainees, foundation doctors, medical and nursing students.
Our Practice Team
Business Manager
Our Business Manager is responsible for the overall management of the practice, its services and its personnel. He is accountable for all non-clinical procedures and policies. He also maintains links with the wider NHS organisation to ensure that the practice remains abreast of current initiatives.
The Practice Nursing Team
We have two Nurse Practitioners who run our minor illness and triage clinics.
Carol Harrison. RGN (1988), Extended Independent Nurse Prescriber (2004), BSC Respiratory Care (2011), PG Diploma Advanced Nursing Practice (2000) and Family Planning Certificate (2003). Carol provides chronic disease and sexual health clinics
Fiona Sutherland. RGN (1985), General Practice Practitioner (2008) and Extended Independent Nurse Practitioner (2010). Fiona provides acute and routine general and chronic disease care.
Our practice nursing services are managed by Debora Brown RGN (1986), BA Health Service Management (1995), PG Certificate in Diabetes (2003), Independent Nurse Prescriber (2005) and MSc Advanced Practice (2012). Debora specialises in services for diabetes.
Our nursing team also includes Helen Smith RGN (1976), Registered Smoking Advisor, and Ruth Butler RGN (1989) Diploma in Diabetes, Respiratory Disease, and Cytology, who is also a Registered Smoking Advisor, and Emily Norris RGN (2021).
All our nurses work closely with our doctors and, in addition to administering routine treatments, run service clinics and are able to advise you on a variety of health problems.
Our Health Care Assistant, Jacky, supports the nurses and doctors within the practice by providing services such as phlebotomy, blood pressure reading, urine analysis, and ECG reading. This information is used by the doctors to diagnose and treat their patients.
We also have Stephanie and Emma providing phlebotomy services.
The Practice Support Team
The practice administrative team will deal with your enquiries and requests as efficiently as possible whilst respecting your confidentiality.
Dispensers
The dispensers provide a dispensing service for patients in rural areas and those temporarily resident within the area. They are also responsible for processing repeat prescriptions for all practice patients.
Health Visitors
The health visitors run their own clinics at Community House (Allhallowgate) and help with childcare, growth and development, feeding problems and preventive healthcare in all age groups. Patients can contact the health visitors on their own direct phone line: 01765 645932. There is an answer machine facility available; if you have need for urgent or emergency care, please ring the normal surgery number.
Community Midwife
The community midwife holds antenatal clinics at Ripon Community Hospital. To contact them please call 01423 553051. Antenatal appointments are also available with your own doctor.
District Nurses
The district nursing team is based at Ripon Community Hospital and gives nursing care to housebound patients who are unable to attend the surgery. Their skills range from simple dressings, injections and nursing assessment to care of the terminally ill and palliative care. The district nurses also have their own direct line, 01423 554632 with answer machine facility; if you have need for urgent or emergency care, please ring the normal surgery number.
